Brow Edge can be reached from the A590 and turning up Brow Edge Road takes you over Bigland Fell towards Grange, Cark and Cartmel.

Bigland Hall which housed the Bigland family for over 900 years now belongs to a company which runs outdoor leisure facilities like riding and fishing.

The Old Sunday School - Brow Edge

Brow Edge sits on the left of the A590 if travelling towards Barrow in Furness and Brow Edge Road is a steep and winding hill taking the traveller to the top of Barrow Hill. (You will read in other pages that Backbarrow's name as a village is derived from the fact that it was situated at the back of Barrow Hill)

Many of the inhabitants worked in the Iron Making Industry during its time in the valley, then in cotton and finally in the production of Ultramarine Blue.
